From the Desk of: Sophfronia Scott, Newtown, Conn., USA

Dear Friend,

A few months after my first novel was published, I was nominated for a Best New Author award and attended a party with my fellow nominees. I enjoyed rubbing elbows with names I had only known before in print so the afternoon was thrilling for me. At one point, though, I got into an intense but interesting conversation with another well-published author who was complaining about the number and poor quality of self-published books in the marketplace.

"Just because you have a computer, that doesn't make you a writer," she said. She went on to point out that everyone may have a story, but that didn't mean it deserved to be published. I listened to her--I probably even nodded my head once or twice!--but for the rest of the evening and weeks afterward that conversation bothered me. I didn't know why until I finally realized that her comments went against and struck at the heart of what I hold to be a deep personal belief: if a person wants to create, to bring something vital and new into the world, then...

YOU CAN DO IT!

I don't believe in closing doors to people. It's my belief that maybe a new writer only needs the right guidance and a few ideas to help create an amazing book. Maybe too many writers have published without that guidance until now. Maybe they did produce books with a lot of mistakes or were poorly written. Does that put them in the wrong? I don't think so! The fact that they believed in their book enough to finish it, to me, earns them kudos galore.

But what if those writers, and many others who want to do what they did, had the guidance and information to produce books that were well-written, published in tune with the author's wishes, and marketed well enough so that the writer could make back their investment or even more? What if writers were empowered to take control of their publishing process and not have to wait for anyone's permission to put truly great work into print? I find those ideas exciting. I also believe it's all possible! That's why I do what I do and that's why I wrote and recorded The Book Sistah's 21-Step Guide to Writing, Publishing & Marketing Your Book.

The bottom line is that I poured my heart and soul into this course, and I didn't leave anything out. This is a COMPLETE guide to finding the right kind of success--YOUR SUCCESS--in the publishing world.

Are you a consultant, coach, aspiring author, entrepreneur or speaker who...

  • Wants to quickly skyrocket into the publishing world and become known as an expert, with tons of visibility and credibility?
  • Is tired of seeing everyone else getting their books published... except you? (Especially peers in your field who aren’t as qualified as you are!)
  • Is overwhelmed and exhausted from sending out countless queries and hearing nothing in response?
  • Has great ideas and strong content, but you just don’t know how to package and sell them?
  • Has purchased dozens of e-books and programs and attended conferences that supposedly teach writing, publishing and marketing success, but the only results you see are higher credit card bills?
  • Is totally new to the world of books and know absolutely nothing--not even how to begin--and wishes you had a real-life mentor to guide you? Someone who actually IS a successfully published author and well-connected in the book industry? A real-life consultant, author, and speaker who truly understands and empathizes with where you're at and what you’re trying to do?

What would your life be like if you had my knowledge to help you, guide you, lead you, and navigate you through the ever-changing publishing business.

I’m not kidding! You see…

Here’s the Problem:

Too many aspiring authors like you are getting frustrated when it comes to writing, marketing and getting their books published . You read all the articles, buy e-books and courses, attend teleseminars, workshops, and conferences. But like most, you're probably not making any progress, or you're barely getting your book written let alone marketing it out in the world. (Sound familiar?)

When I ask people just like you why they’re not succeeding, they say they have no time to write and they're overwhelmed anyway because there always seems like there's a MISSING PIECE to the information that's out there!

***And it's true.***

  • Many programs will teach you about writing, but not how to get published.
  • Someone else may teach you how to get published, but not how to market the book so you won't have 5,000 books in your garage and ZERO sales!
  • There's great marketing information out there, but if you can't get the book written or published what good is it?

There's also too many people wanting to take advantage of you. You're passionate about your book, but that emotion can make you vulnerable to the endless wiles of scam artists who love to make money from writers desperate to have representation and be published. So-called "agents" insist on sky-high reading fees just to look at your manuscript. So-called "publishers" offer to put out your book when they are nothing more than glorified, high-priced printers.

Burned By An Agent

One writer, M. Talbott, on an online forum posted her story of being duped by a false agent. It's not an uncommon one. Has this happened to you?

When M. finished her novel she mailed out hundreds of queries to publishers and agents. The effort cost a great deal in postage, took up months of her time and yielded a mass of rejection letters. So you can imagine how excited M. was when an agent from her mailing requested to see her book. She promptly sent it off and received a contract a couple of weeks later. The agent wanted a fee: $150 for postage and copies, which seemed reasonable. She signed the year-long contract and sent her check.

After three months, M. received a letter listing the publishers the agent would approach. Then she got a letter every theree months listing the publishers and the number of rejections. At year's end the book remained unsold.

The agent cited still more possible publishers and asked for another $150. M. declined and asked for her manuscript back plus a copy of all the rejection letters. Here's what she got: Her book was returned, but it had no bent corners, no pencil marks and no sign that anyone had ever read it! The rejection letters were from publishers that weren't on the list the agent had originally sent and, worst of all, only one was actually addressed to M.'s agency and specified the name of her novel. ONLY ONE! The rest looked identical to all the standard rejections she had received on her own.

A Sad Tale, But So True...

What happened to this writer does happen, but NOT to writers who know and understand their business. They understand everything from basic manuscript mechanics to the appropriate agents and editors to submit their work to. And it's what you need to master if you're going to play with the big boys and girls. When you understand these things, none of your effort or your precious creative energy is wasted.

One of my subscribers recently shared, “Sophfronia, if only we had someone like YOU continually helping us, getting us focused, and watching over us – personally leading and teaching us -- someone who is really living and breathing and doing this stuff -- it would make our lives so much EASIER.”

Honestly, I’ve thought before about working with writers one-on-one. But I was worried it would take up too much of my time. I like my life right now and the free time I have. I don't like being tied down.

But I realized if someone was REALLY serious about their writing , willing to take my lead, learn from my mistakes, follow my advice and guidance, and do what I know works... Not only would it be incredibly rewarding for me to see their hard work turn into a published manuscript , but I could pass on to them what I have spent the last number of years learning. (And that would feel great!)

And, I thought, if I WAS going to do this, I would put everything I know into one course, in one place, so new writers could have solid information they could refer to again and again.

Are YOU willing to do what it takes to succeed?

Let me warn you...

Success takes work.

Including success in publishing. While many coaches and marketers will sell you the “magic pill” to writing riches, you'll quickly discover there is no such thing. It comes down to rolling up your sleeves and getting stuff done – the right stuff, the right way, with the right formula. And that's where I come in.

You see, there are proven systems and strategies that, when properly followed and implemented, will bring you success and attention you've only imagined!

How do I know?

I Used to Be Wannabe Too!

I struggled to find time to write my book while working a full time job as a writer and editor at People magazine. But even after I finally completed a manuscript, my road to publishing my first book was a hard one. I endured two rounds of rejections from over twenty publishers (and I rewrote the ENTIRE book TWICE) before selling my novel to a major publishing house for a handsome advance.

But the work didn’t end there. Along the way there were many moments when I could have made decisions that would have hurt the quality, sales and even the very existence of my book. I noticed these landmines I avoided were topics not usually discussed.

Here are just a few examples:

  • My deadline in my book contract wasn’t just MY deadline. It was a deadline that affected when the book would be printed and whether it would make it into my publisher’s marketing catalog on time. No one told me that if I missed my deadline I would miss key marketing opportunities for my book and miss my publication date!
  • No one told me how important it was to push for “blurb” reviews from known authors and other celebrities--or how to go about doing it! I thought these were just window dressing, but having the right names praising my book made the marketing department at my publishing house sit up and TAKE NOTICE of my work. It also gave them more ammunition when making sales to buyers from the major bookstores.
  • I knew I would do a lot of publicity work on my own. What I didn’t know was how important my own direct contacts would be, even to the publicist assigned to me. I had to get on the phone A LOT. What does a writer do when you don’t have such contacts?

I know you as a writer really want to know how to sidestep all of these landmines—And I know the information isn’t easily available because I’m asked all the time about the editing, marketing and writing of books. Plus there's no one else who can tell you what you secretly really want to know:

What's It Like to Finally Leave the 9-to-5 Job Behind and Truly Own the Writing Life?

It's honestly been a dream come true, allowing me the cash flow to:

  • live in a beautiful home with my own office space
  • travel around the country
  • become a noted speaker
  • invest money for a worry-free future
  • take great care of myself
  • become sought after for industry inteviews
  • and, most important to me, live creatively and FREELY!

Me Delivering a Keynote Address in One of My Many Speaking Engagements

Why You Should Learn From Me…

  • I am an excellent person to ask! I know I made good choices because with my first novel I did something unusual in traditional publishing: I made money. That means I paid out my advance and I now receive royalty checks. It’s a dirty little secret in the land of publishing. You hear about these huge advances that some authors get, but in fact they start off in the hole. What they don’t tell you is that if the book doesn’t sell well, the author doesn’t get any more money. The only way they make money after that is if the books sells more than the amount of the advance, and in unsettling numbers, that doesn’t happen. Happily, I was able to beat the odds and I’m ready to share the information with you about how I did it.
  • And best of all, unlike other sources, I am STILL in the trenches, doing the things I speak of. I am a published novelist, working on my next books, both fiction and non-fiction. So everything I tell you is current. My contacts are current. My resources are current.

  • Today I have my OWN published works that attract opportunities that bring me thousands of dollars on a regular basis.

  • I’ve also spent 15 years as a magazine journalist, and from the lessons I’ve learned writing for publications I can take in a lot of information and cull it down to the no-nonsense meat that YOU want.
  • Most recently I've been published in the latest in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, Chicken Soup for the African American Woman's Soul. I'm thrilled to join the long line of distinguished writers in these books which have sold more than 60 million copies!

I worked incessantly to get my book into the hands of celebrities such as Gayle King (Oprah's best friend!), Ice-T and, as you can see here, Hugh Jackman!

Above, signing copies of Chicken Soup for the African American Woman's Soul in Los Angeles and below with my fellow authors.

  • Thanks to my online marketing, viral marketing, publicity and visibility strategies, I've gained speaking invitations for major events around the country, was featured in People and Essence magazines, was interviewed by the Investors Business Daily, BBC Radio, and Black Enterprise magazine.
  • I even planned and executed my own cross-country book tour where I had a ready audience waiting for me at every stop. That's something that many established authors still can't do. Wouldn't you like to have that kind of reception for your book? I'll tell you how to get it done!

Meeting My Audience: I Loved Traveling (even at 8 months pregnant!) and Autographing My First Novel!

Now, I am NOT telling you about the wonderful life I have simply to impress you.

I AM telling you this to impress upon you ... if you learn how write well and to harness the power of the Internet to effectively market and sell your book, there is truly NO LIMIT to the income you can make and the freedom you can build for you and your family!

But instead of me telling you that I really know my stuff, I'll just let some of my subscribers tell you. These are some of the testimonials we have on file from my raving fans:

“I'd like to express my great appreciation for The 21-Step Guide to Writing, Publishing & Marketing Your Book. It came just at the right time for me as I'm writing a book for the first time based on posts from my blog. As you can see, I've pretty much covered all the bases. I know it's huge. The course delivers meaty content from the beginning of the manual to the end of the last CD. And it's NOT just a bunch of random ideas thrown together. You get a complete method for approaching the publishing of your book. The only question is…

What Are You Missing That Could Make You a Successful Author?

Being a successfully published author takes confidence and commitment. But how can you feel confident let alone committed, about something you know so little about?

  • You don't know why you're writing.
  • You don't know if anyone will care about what you're writing.
  • You don't know if there's a market for what you're writing.
  • You don't know if agents will want what you're writing.
  • You don't know if editors will buy what you're writing.
  • You don't know how to use the book to benefit your work and/or business.

Then you're supposed to spend months, even years, ALONE in a room producing this work and you don't know if it all will be A BIG WASTE OF TIME. So how do you find the information that will help you feel confident and committed?

Information Isn't Hard to Find. GOOD Information IS!

When you look around, you realize it's nearly impossible to get reliable information and find it all in one place. The book business is very much an exclusive--and often "closed" --club. It's hard to get good information because so few people have actually been published successfully. (And those who have done well are reluctant to share their tips for success.)

So How Will You Achieve Your Dream?

I know you're busy. You have a whole other life and career or business you have to keep going while trying to become a published author. You can't spend the years I spent learning the business--perhaps because you've wasted a lot of time already. And spending hours on the Internet, reading book after book and getting your nuggets bit by bit just won't cut it. The good news is you do have a GREAT alternative.

In fact, I can show you EVERYTHING you need to know.

My Fabulous Home Study Course Will Put You On the Path to Publishing In Just Minutes a Day!

You see, I wrote and recorded The Book Sistah's 21-Step Guide to Writing, Publishing & Marketing Your Book to painlessly guide busy people like you through the process from the foundation of your book to the final product.

It's Comprehensive.

It's Powerful.

It's Easy-to-Understand.

I wanted it that way. I know what it is to have that dream of standing in the store, admiring your book on the shelves; to see your name, your hard work, in print! This course is my way of helping you get there with your vision--your book. You will be able to take control and get it done.

I've taken all the mystery out of the publishing process. You'll learn:

  • The 3 basic keys you'll need to have in place BEFORE sitting down to write.
  • The Book Sistah Circle Method for structuring your book. Fiction or non-fiction, you'll build a book so compelling your readers won't want to put it down!
  • What 1 tip will let you know what topics will be bestsellers TOMORROW.
  • The 10 Steps to writing a killer book proposal.
  • How to do a live book tour (on a new author's budget)!
  • The 5 money-saving questions to ask BEFORE you hire a publicist.
  • The SINGLE and BEST way to keep your readers around while you write your next book.
  • 4 Items to check before signing a book contract.
  • The one piece of paper that will make you an IRRESISTIBLE interview subject for television or radio.
  • How to use Amazon.com to your book's advantage.

And so much more!

I will connect the dots and fill in the blanks to help you develop, write, pitch and publish your book. I'll show you how other well-known authors use similar techniques. Writing a book can be so rewarding. The doors opened by a published book are so amazing that it's worth doing what you need to do to get your book out there.

What Might Stop You From Taking Advantage of This Opportunity...

Okay, as attractive as this program is, I'm told by "the experts" that only about 3-5% of the people receiving it will respond. Although those are supposed to be great numbers from a business standpoint, it still bothers me personally. You see, I know how much the writers using my services benefit from them. I read their emails, I talk to them on the phone; I see them personally when they attend my appearances. Because of this, I just hate the thought of someone not getting even the package I'm offering here because of some error or omission in my explanation. That's why I surveyed my customers just to try to figure out why you might say "no" to this extraordinary program. They could only think of these reasons. Here they are:

1.) I'm not ready (confident, creative, etc.).

I can understand if you don't know what you're going to write about just yet, but if you already have your book in mind, then this is the program that will help you get ready. You'll have the best strategies for completing a great book right at your fingertips.

2.) I can't afford it right now.

If investing this kind of money to help you complete your book and successfully sell it seems like a lot of money to you, consider all the authors who have spent that kind of money on boxes and boxes of a mediocre book that are sitting in their garages and basements and hasn’t made them a single dollar!

OR you could easily drop that much money on a few pricey writing and publishing seminars that promise the world, but are just too crowded for you to make any significant contact with anyone once you get there.

3.) I don't have time to do this right now.

And, consider the hundreds of hours of time you will WASTE trying to learn everything on your own -- you could spend the next five years floating on “cloud clueless” and not make a dime, or even worse, go into tons of debt from having a poor publishing plan or -- worse -- buying information on strategies you can't or just won’t put into action.

Instead, why don't you just...
